Who you are Matters

Where do I come from?

I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York City when I was a child. I was raised on a beautiful island where people are always welcoming and cheerful. A collectivist society, unlike the USA. It took me some time to get used to how individualistic people are. However, I'm still a collectivist at heart with some individualistic tendencies.

Where am I going?

After I graduate I plan to go back to NYC and find a job. Then pursue my masters later on in my career. Will eventually go back to DR when I'm older.

How do I plan to get there?

I plan to work hard in order to be able to accomplish my future goals.

How am I like my parents?

I always look at the bright side of things like my mother. We also have similar personalities, we care deeply about those who are close to us. On the other hand, I have learned to always be hard-working like my dad. We have a similar way of handling conflict.

How am I different from my parents?

Because we were born in different generations we tend to have different opinions on a lot of things. I'm also more expressive with the way I feel.

Expectations?

I think is a combination of my own expectations and those placed on me by my parents. Because I migrated to the USA I always told myself that I should always do my best at everything I do. We left our home country and came to the USA because we knew the many opportunities this country has to offer.

Role model?

If I'm being honest I don't think I have ever had a single role model. I just always had many people who I looked up to, depending on what aspects I thought aligned with my beliefs.

ANIMAL WORLD: What wild animal do I feel a special connection with?

Since I can't be a cat, I will probably be a sloth. I love sleeping, taking life one step at a time, and loved climbing trees as a child.

NATURE KINGDOMS: Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.

When I was a child we used to have this huge Limoncillo tree that for the longest time I thought was alive.  In the sense that I thought it could talk and was was just sleeping during the day. This happened after I watched this TV show that had talking trees and mine looked like it had a sleeping face. This was a very special tree. I had my first swing built into it, and it was also my favorite tree to climb as a child.
