Our mission

Global Access Networks is committed to empowering people to be the change they want to see. Through community engagement and a team of dedicated volunteers, we hope to help communities take control of their lives. 

About us
Global Access Network is an organization that focuses on assisting those in need. GAN's main areas of focus are education, housing, and food insecurity. We believe that these are issues affecting many people around the world. GAN takes several approaches to combating these issues. First, we identify the country and community we want to assist. For our first job, we want to focus on North and South America. After we have identified a community we communicate with local leaders and NGO’s around the area to obtain a clear understanding of what issues the community is facing. When these issues are brought to light we come up with sustainable solutions. Our main goal and what sets us apart from other organizations is that we equip communities to be self-sufficient. This is done through skill and educational workshops, educational grants, and sustainability efforts. In the following paragraphs, we will go in deep on how we plan to tackle our main areas of focus.

Housing
Instead of having volunteers learn how to build homes, we want to teach the local community to do so. This will not only benefit their community but will also help them find jobs in that field of work. Furthermore, housing is more than just building a home. They need to understand its functionality. This means if we give them resources for renewable energy we will teach them how to take care of the technology. Furthermore, if we help them obtain a suitable water source they also need the skills to keep the infrastructure running. 


Education
Access to education is extremely important, communities and countries improve once their population is more educated. Access to education allows people to pursue careers, expand their knowledge, and improve their quality of life. Without education, people are often limited in their ability to access better job opportunities or improve their socioeconomic status. Therefore, our organization will build schools in places that don’t have them. In some communities access to school can be a dangerous task the documentary Most Dangerous Ways to School | Brazil showcases the lengths people can go to obtain an education. Our organization will also offer grants to give people the opportunity to attend college. We hope that people who study education can come back and teach their community. 


Food insecurity
Access to food is pivotal for the survival of individuals. We live in a world where certain countries lack access to food while others waste an insane amount of food per year. Working on food insecurity can be challenging depending on the region we are in. We plan to focus on generative farming practices and hydroponics depending on the region. After people can grow their food, we will teach the community ways to make money from the produce they might have remaining. This could create a source of income for the community as a whole. 


Why am I passionate about this organization?
Growing up in a developing nation countries showed me the hardships people have to face. As a child, I met many people who were unable to receive an education as children. My great-grandmother was one of those people. She was born under a dictatorship that lasted thirty-one years. Daughter to a rancher who despite not receiving an education made a living from his land and the animals he was able to sell. She started working at a young age and never had the opportunity to go back to school. I have also seen children as young as 5 years old working to help put food on the table. I truly believe that education, a home, and food should be considered human rights. A right that many people around the world don’t have access to.

Through the empowerment of communities, skill development, and educational grants we believe that we will impact people’s lives in a meaningful way. By supporting our organization you are not only helping us achieve our mission but also giving people the opportunity to be in charge of their lives.

When I was a kid one of my favorite things was watching my great-grandmother Tatica cook. If I had to rank my favorite cooks it would be Mami Tacia, mami Oly, and Papi Junior. Growing up I didn’t like cooking, I felt like it was an expectation so I rarely did it. In a typical Hispanic household, it was expected for the girls to learn how to cook while the boys did nothing. I always heard stories about how my mom used to cook for all of her cousins because she was a girl and the oldest. However, my view changed as I grew up and I had evidence to back up my claims. Book Post #2

    The book I chose is Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others" by Barbara Brown Taylor. I chose this book because I grew up as a Christian in the Dominican Republic. From a young age, I was taught that there’s only one true religion. And that question about anything about it was a sin. However, coming to the USA exposed me to many different religions. I started asking many questions about core Christian beliefs and learning about the different religions I was exposed to. Learning about many different practices opened my eyes and made me take certain beliefs as my own.  The book explores the diversity of religious experiences beyond Christianity. Throughout it, Taylor talked about Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam, showcasing the beauty and depth she finds in their practices and beliefs. Taylor emphasizes the idea of "holy envy” which is the admiration and longing she feels for aspects of other faiths that resonate deeply with her spiritual journey. The book so...
